{"id":619,"date":"2023-01-22T15:10:02","date_gmt":"2023-01-22T15:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scichess.org\/?page_id=619"},"modified":"2025-02-22T22:27:11","modified_gmt":"2025-02-22T22:27:11","slug":"2023-scholastic-chess-of-indiana-team-championships","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/scichess.org\/?page_id=619","title":{"rendered":"2025 Team Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"><em>The 54th Annual SCI Team Championship Tournament<\/em><\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>GENERAL INFORMATION:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Scholastic Chess of Indiana Team Championships is a team competition for Indiana grade K-12 schools. Play is in four grade divisions \u2013 12<sup>th<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under, 8<sup>th<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under, 6<sup>th<\/sup> Grade and Under, and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under. 6<sup>th<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under teams must qualify at a regional before attending Finals. 12<sup>th<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under and 8<sup>th<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under teams play only in the Finals. Format is 4-player fixed-roster teams (minimum of 3 players to form a team). Both Regionals and Finals will be conducted using the Swiss System.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>ELIGIBILITY <\/strong>(There have been some changes since last year \u2013 please read carefully)<strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Any accredited school in Indiana may send any number of teams to compete in the Regional tournaments. Teams may choose their Regional, but all teams from one school in the same division must play in the same Regional. Teams consist of <strong>3-6 full-time<\/strong> students attending the same school. Schools that share facilities but have different Indiana Department of Education numbers on this website are considered to be different schools: <a href=\"https:\/\/inview.doe.in.gov\/state\/1088000000\/school-list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">https:\/\/inview.doe.in.gov\/state\/1088000000\/school-list<\/a>. Home schools and virtual schools are not eligible. A parent or school sponsor must accompany the group to the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Schools entering teams in the 8<sup>th<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under division at Finals can have at most two students in grades 6 and under on their teams. Schools with at least three 6<sup>th<\/sup> grade and under students are expected to take part in a 6<sup>th<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under Regional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>US CHESS MEMBERSHIP:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Regional tournaments are <strong>NOT<\/strong> rated by US Chess. However, the Finals are US Chess rated and every team member will need a US Chess number to participate in Finals. Those numbers are available free of charge for students in the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under section and will cost $24 for most other players. Further instructions will be included when it is time to enter Finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>DEADLINES:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">6<sup>th<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under teams must enter a Regional by <strong>February 10<\/strong>. Those teams who qualify for Finals as well as all 12<sup>th<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under and 8<sup>th<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under teams will need to enter Finals by <strong>March 14<\/strong>. Finals entry will open on February 23, after the Regionals are completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>COST:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The entry fee for the Regionals is $56 per team, regardless of the number of team members. All 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under teams who complete their schedule at a Regional will qualify for Finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>SCHEDULES:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">All Regionals will follow similar schedules. Doors will open at 8:00am local time. Teams should be in the building ready to play by 8:30am. Each Regional will begin with a players\u2019 meeting and the first round will begin immediately afterward, usually at 9:00am. Play should be completed between 3:00-5:00 p.m., depending on the size of the regional. (Note: Hammond is in the Central time zone. All others are on Eastern time.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>ROUNDS AND TIME CONTROLS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The precise number of rounds and the time controls will depend partly on the number of entries and any local constraints on the playing site. You can expect between 3 and 5 rounds in each section, with 6<sup>th<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under playing at G\/35;d5 and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under playing at G\/30;d5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>TROPHIES:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">At the Regional level, trophies will be awarded to the top 3 schools in 6<sup>th<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Grade &amp; Under.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>EQUIPMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Regional hosts will provide sets, but not chess clocks. Players may wish to bring a clock to use during the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>FOOD:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Food is available for purchase at most of the Regional sites. generally served by local groups. You may wish to bring your own, pick up food in nearby restaurants.
