4/12/2008 Scholastic Chess of Indiana Girls State Championship
A new champion was crowned at the 5th annual Indiana Girls State Chess Championship on April 12, 2008 at Fishback Creek Public Academy in Indianapolis. 22 girls in grades 2 through 12 took part in this year’s championship, which determined Indiana’s representative to the Susan Polgar National Invitational for Girls, to be held in Texas July-August. Emily Tallow, a 7th grader from Fort Wayne, defeated previous champions Krista Selby, a 12th grader from Terre Haute, and sister Sarah Selby, a 9th grader. Emily won all 5 of her games. Emily is now eligible to compete in the Susan Polgar National Invitational for Girls at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas July 27-August 1. The tournament host at Fishback Creek Public Academy was Jerry Ritchie, and the Tournament Director was Steve Steppe. E-mail for further info.
